CW: Suicide
Therapy is an exceptional tool for growth, growth in life, and spirituality. In no way does therapy or medication detract from spiritual or life experiences. The stigma of therapy is a leftover remnant of using hospitals to house undesirables, but social expectations and the medical field have come such a long way since then.
I understand finding good therapy can be difficult. My best friend took her life this past November and when we logged into her email (trying to track down her real phone number to ping her phone) we found email after email after email of rejection letters from different therapists. Good and proper therapy was something that she lacked in her time of need. She felt so hopeless that instead of reaching out to her peers for the help she needed, she sunk deep down into her despair and took her life.
To see that my friend wasn’t able to find the help she needed even while taking all of the right steps was incredibly disheartening. If you’re currently struggling with finding help, don’t hesitate to reach out to your community. Getting started is one of the most difficult parts of healing yourself, either in your waking or spiritual life. If you don’t feel like you have a community to reach out to, it’s perfectly reasonable to find help elsewhere. There are many communities on Reddit, Facebook, TikTok, and many other websites that may be able to guide you in the right direction. Also, you can always check yourself into an emergency room or ask your primary care doctor for a recommendation. You are worthy, I know it can be difficult and I empathize with that struggle.
It’s important to remember that spirituality is only one part of the equation when healing yourself or working on attaining self-mastery. Another important part of the equation is nurturing your mental and physical state. Sometimes it’s ok to need a little extra help in your healing journey. Slow down and take the time you need to pull yourself forward. Not all parts of yourself move at the same pace. You may have spent years practicing your self-expression through drawing, but ignored the part where you spoke up and advocated for yourself. Sometimes it’s ok to put one part of you on pause to nurture another part of yourself. Sometimes to work on very difficult parts of ourselves we need medical and professional help so we may pinpoint the best possible route to self-mastery.
I have actively pursued both spirituality and therapy at the same time. While doing this I found I was able to listen more closely to my higher self. Miracles and magic happen when you clear the dust and destruction of your past life. In that space of clarity, you take on a different shape. You become sharper, more receptive, more compassionate, and from that space, you find more strength and become magic itself.
