Today is the last full moon of winter, and it’s in the sign of Virgo. This is a great time to reexamine all of the things you have consciously and subconsciously manifested over the winter. Virgo is a hardworking sign and corresponds with the Hermit tarot. The Hermit teaches us the power of looking within. Depending on where you are in your life, the Hermit can either be seen as setting out or returning from a long journey with a lantern in hand. Regardless of the direction that you’re taking, we can look at this as a type of beneficial growth that comes from inner knowledge. This type of energy is a powerful way to end the long and meditative winter season.
Since the last major moon of winter is full in the sign of Virgo, I like to look at these particular lessons of the Hermit card as the lessons at the end of a journey. The full moon represents a full cup, a cup that needs to either be celebrated in all of its glory or a cup that needs to be emptied. The last new moon of Summer is appropriately in the sign of Virgo, signifying the beginning of our long inner journey, that starts with the liminal season of autumn.
This is a great time to ask yourself where you were mentally, physically, and spiritually during last year’s Virgo new moon. How does it differ from this year’s Virgo full moon? What were the lessons you learned along your winter journey? How has your inner power improved? Did you try to hide from any inner truths? What have you carried with you throughout the seasons?
The lessons of the Virgo full moon are deep and powerful. They ask us to reexamine our journey and release that which no longer serves us, so that we may go into this new season with better clarity and better inner strength.
I honor the seasonal changes through journaling, ritual, divination, spell work, and much more. For me, Virgo asks me to stay deeply connected to the earth, working with magic and ritual through food, mediation, and yoga. I try to connect the elements of earth and my body at this time, making sure I stay present and aware of the many blessings and lessons I have received, and that I associate them with the here and now. As the year progresses and I become more comfortable with who I am now, this practice becomes much easier.
It may also be wise to ask yourself what grounds you into your inner reality and how do you connect these things to your outer world.
