Yesterday was the new moon in cancer, the first new moon during the summer season. Starting off the official summer season with such a deeply emotional new moon is an incredibly grounding experience. The universe helps to balance us out like that. We spend all winter entrenched in meditative practices and then the entire summer in outwardly active practices. It’s only fitting we would kick off the summer season in the northern hemisphere with a cancer new moon.
In my practice, I find more comfort in the meditative parts of magic than the active parts. This summer I’m working on getting comfortable with the more active parts of magic, and using every chance I get to hone in on the unknown through meditative channels. This new moon in cancer was a wonderful opportunity to do that. After such a chaotic Gemini season I felt off-kilter and needed a good reset and cancer season is delivering that.
Cancer season magic is a soft and receptive type of magic. We can practice this magic through inclusion, self-acceptance, and tapping into the subtle undercurrents of the universe. The cancer new moon kicks off summer by asking how do you honor yourself and the world around you? How do you allow the depths of your spirit to play a role in your day-to-day life? This month it’s time to answer these questions.
I plan to answer these questions by paying attention to how I interact with the world and then how this makes me feel. Through self-examination and acceptance of who I am and how I navigate my world, I am sure to find answers to how to better navigate my day-to-day life. To fully explore our world, we must also allow ourselves the grace for genuine reactions to it. Making contact with the universe is not enough. We must do so with honesty and openness.
Open and honest exploration is a kindness to the truth. When we are kind to ourselves we find more opportunities to grow and thus are able to be kinder to those around us. You may have heard the saying “The truth will set you free.” this season very much embodies some of that energy. When we pay attention to the voice inside of us and live our lives in accordance with that we are able to navigate our worlds in a more honest and open way, giving us the space to hear and accept others around us more readily. So, this cancer season sink deeply into the beautiful and receptive magic of the cancer sign. Use this magic to guide you on a more accepting path through life.
